Pacific Lamprey Challenge

When the US Fish and Wildlife Department wanted to create a challenge cache series to educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey, they wanted to give participants something to remember the experience by.  They were looking for a gift that would be meaningful to Geocachers, but which is available on a budget.  They selected Pathtags!

The only way to get their beautiful tag is by completeing the cache series, located just Southwest of Olympia, Washington.

Here are all six mystery cache sites:

The overall goals of this program are:
  • Educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey
  • Educate the public about the Chehalis River Basin and the partners working to conserve/restore it.

Walton Robotics FIRST Team 2974 Pathtag

FIRST is a nonprofit organization founded by famed inventor Dean Kamen to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers among young people. The vehicle for making this happen is a program of competitive robotics tournaments for children as young as Kindergarten through high school.

In 2013, Walton Robotics Team 2974 decided to do something special to leave a lasting impression on the people they "crossed paths with" at their competition.  They created a Pathtag to give to other attendees!

Lisa Malice, one of the team's mentors, said "The pathtags were a big hit with the students because it was a unique give-away and because of the creative approach to spreading our message. Geocachers I met loved it, but the muggle families I talked with were really intrigued! We are starting to see log ins pop up on our tag map, including the ones I sent to Australia and Oregon to collectors who agreed to place them in geocaches."

"Thank you so very much to Pathtags and the designer of the tag, Sunset Tags. The wonderful art of the tag is incredible. This tag is so much better than we had expected. We had fast service from both Pathtags and Sunset Tags. The detail of the work is awesome, and we are proud to leave this signature tag in the geocaches we find. "

"Woohoo...My tags arrived and they look awesome! Its amazing to see the work that goes into making a pathtag. I plan on making a fall and a winter version as well. All though cheap swag is nice for the kids, it's nice to have something affordable for the older kids ;o) thank you for a making geo caching even more fun!"

"I received my very first Pathtag today and I am just thrilled! Your staff was exceptional in working with me to get the design just right before it went in to production and I received my tag less than 4 weeks after having submitted the final blueprint. I couldn't be happier and have two others in production right now that I can't wait to receive!"

MizzGrizz

"I just wanted to write you today and let you now how THRILLED I am about my pathtags. They look totally amazing and even better than i had pictured. I just got them in not 3 minutes ago and i swear i did a little dance when i saw how great they turned out. So satisfied, thank you so much! Even the packaging and the inclusion of the keychain clip ring is wonderful."

Titan's Curse

"At first, when the blueprint was received, we weren't sure whether the tag would have substantial detail to be favorable by our customers... and boy, were we wrong to worry. Not only did this tag turn out to be a true gem, but it's got LOADS of character, size and detail. Be sure to check out the photo we added of the tag in real life. Simply AMAZING! Our customers LOVE it, we LOVE it and we'll certainly be back for more in the future!"

illahie
