Pacific Lamprey Challenge

When the US Fish and Wildlife Department wanted to create a challenge cache series to educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey, they wanted to give participants something to remember the experience by.  They were looking for a gift that would be meaningful to Geocachers, but which is available on a budget.  They selected Pathtags!

The only way to get their beautiful tag is by completeing the cache series, located just Southwest of Olympia, Washington.

Here are all six mystery cache sites:
The overall goals of this program are:
  • Educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey
  • Educate the public about the Chehalis River Basin and the partners working to conserve/restore it.
  • Connect People With Nature via geocaching

Walton Robotics FIRST Team 2974 Pathtag

FIRST is a nonprofit organization founded by famed inventor Dean Kamen to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers among young people. The vehicle for making this happen is a program of competitive robotics tournaments for children as young as Kindergarten through high school.

In 2013, Walton Robotics Team 2974 decided to do something special to leave a lasting impression on the people they "crossed paths with" at their competition.  They created a Pathtag to give to other attendees!

Lisa Malice, one of the team's mentors, said "The pathtags were a big hit with the students because it was a unique give-away and because of the creative approach to spreading our message. Geocachers I met loved it, but the muggle families I talked with were really intrigued! We are starting to see log ins pop up on our tag map, including the ones I sent to Australia and Oregon to collectors who agreed to place them in geocaches."

Pathtags in Texas State Parks

Texas State Parks is bringing a fun and challenging geocaching activity to adventure seekers and beginners alike.  The Statewide Texas State Parks Geocache Challenge kicked off earlier this summer and has been very popular, with more than 2,500 logged finds in just two short months; awards include geocoins and limited edition Pathtags.  In addition to the Geocache Challenge awards, a series of commemorative, park-themed Pathtags will be introduced for purchase in September at many Texas State Park Stores.  These Pathtags will become part of an exciting mix of products already available for sale to help commemorate your park visit; you'll find items such as patches, hiking stick medallions, t-shirts, and more.  Read the full article for more details on how Pathtags are being used to attract visitors and reward participation in their park programs, as well as for a list of parks who will have custom Pathtags for purchase in their shops!

"I brought up my Japanese Manhole Series on the forums just to see if there was an interest. WHOA!! I wasn't ready for all the Kudos and WANTS I received. I've got the first two in for production and 3 more ready to go! Getting initial feedback from my peers was an inspiration and motivator to get my series in the works! As Fakk2 put it, "A manhole cover is nothing but a pathtag on steroids!" THANK YOU one and all!"

DragonFly Dreams

"My Difficulty 5 - Owl and Pussycat arrived today, and I am quite blown away! The glittering sky is beautiful, setting of the stars and moon to perfection, and the detail of the owl and pussycat is amazing. It is such a thrill to receive a tag that is even better than expectations. Thanks so much to all the Pathtag hard working team."

"We just got our first Path Tags. They are great! We can't wait to start leaving them in geocaches. They got here in plenty of time for us to take them to Midwest GeoBash (2009) in July. Thanks for the great service."

Ginsu Macloed

"Received our tags today. They are Great!!! My son's (Titans's Curse) is better than expected!"

Titan's Curse

"I had this tag made to give away to friends whilst overseas. It was a huge hit. (Most of them use it as a tag to unlock shopping trolleys.) Thanks for another great job!"

"I just love all the color and detail that explode off these tiny bits of metal. One of the many great things about these tags are the reactions people submit when they find your tag in a cache. The life of a Pathtag doesn't end when they get shipped! I enjoy the trades and the excitement shared when someone discovers a tag. Thank you for your continued amazing work, attention to detail and the system that keeps the Pathtag community alive."

"I updated my personal tags with both the translucent and glow-in-the-dark and was amazed on how they turned out! These are amazing! I am so glad I decided to update my tags. You guys are terrific!!!!!"

"It is only to let you know that I did receive my first Pathtag this morning. It really looks great, even better than the blueprint. Less than one month between accepted blueprint and delivery at my home overseas!! Great job. Thanks a lot!! "

"We just received our first pathtag, I must say we are very happy indeed. The detail is amazing. Our design came about from a road way sign, discovered while away on the October long weekend event (We didn't start the fire) and a big thank you goes out to The Parrots for help with the design."

Leanne Burton

"I have received so many compliments on how beautiful this tag is! Thank you for the time and care you put into each little piece of art!"
