When the US Fish and Wildlife Department wanted to create a challenge cache series to educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey, they wanted to give participants something to remember the experience by.  They were looking for a gift that would be meaningful to Geocachers, but which is available on a budget.  They selected Pathtags!

The only way to get their beautiful tag is by completeing the cache series, located just Southwest of Olympia, Washington.

Here are all six mystery cache sites:

The overall goals of this program are:
  • Educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey
  • Educate the public about the Chehalis River Basin and the partners working to conserve/restore it.

Walton Robotics FIRST Team 2974 Pathtag

FIRST is a nonprofit organization founded by famed inventor Dean Kamen to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers among young people. The vehicle for making this happen is a program of competitive robotics tournaments for children as young as Kindergarten through high school.

In 2013, Walton Robotics Team 2974 decided to do something special to leave a lasting impression on the people they "crossed paths with" at their competition.  They created a Pathtag to give to other attendees!

Lisa Malice, one of the team's mentors, said "The pathtags were a big hit with the students because it was a unique give-away and because of the creative approach to spreading our message. Geocachers I met loved it, but the muggle families I talked with were really intrigued! We are starting to see log ins pop up on our tag map, including the ones I sent to Australia and Oregon to collectors who agreed to place them in geocaches."

"Our first tag, and I am VERY impressed by the quality. My daughter and I share the initials KFE, so that has become our caching signature. When I found the Pathtags website I knew then and there I HAD to make a KFE Pathtag. It is something we will cherish forever and share with our caching friends abroad."

"I received my tags the day I left for our church camp for a week. Luckily my parents also work at the camp and were leaving later so they were able to check the mail and brought them to me. The tags turned out great. I gave out a couple to friends that were working the camp that were also Geocachers. I left camp for a little while on a couple of the days to find a couple of local caches and I put one of the tags out in the wild in Buda, TX. We asked the camp director for permission to place a cache outside the gate of the camp and it was granted. Three of us got together and put together a small cache and I placed one of the tags there as well. I can't wait to share them with my fellow Geocachers around home."

"Mahalo for my tags. I wasn't expecting them for about another two weeks. Mahalo nui loa to Emma at midnightgothicangel@yahoo.com for putting together the art work for me. "

"Who would ever have thought last year when I had my first tag produced that I would be this addicted to pathtags? I have taken on an extra job to pay for my addiction, and now I will own more than 25 tags by the end of 2009. Every time I think I may need help, I realize how much joy those tags bring to me and everyone else. Thank you for an amazing product! "

"We just received this tag and the quality and workmanship is fantastic. Love the tags-- We are both addicted. At least its not like gambling though. We spend money but we get something in return. "

"I received my 3rd Pathtag shipment today! My first Pathtag was done just four months ago. I have been so pleased with each of my tags. They are attractive, and I am proud to trade them. The whole process has been easy each time. I'm sure it won't be long before I am inspired to order another tag! Thanks!"
