Pacific Lamprey Challenge

When the US Fish and Wildlife Department wanted to create a challenge cache series to educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey, they wanted to give participants something to remember the experience by.  They were looking for a gift that would be meaningful to Geocachers, but which is available on a budget.  They selected Pathtags!

The only way to get their beautiful tag is by completeing the cache series, located just Southwest of Olympia, Washington.

Here are all six mystery cache sites:

The overall goals of this program are:
  • Educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey
  • Educate the public about the Chehalis River Basin and the partners working to conserve/restore it.
  • Connect People With Nature via geocaching

Walton Robotics FIRST Team 2974 Pathtag

FIRST is a nonprofit organization founded by famed inventor Dean Kamen to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers among young people. The vehicle for making this happen is a program of competitive robotics tournaments for children as young as Kindergarten through high school.

In 2013, Walton Robotics Team 2974 decided to do something special to leave a lasting impression on the people they "crossed paths with" at their competition.  They created a Pathtag to give to other attendees!

Lisa Malice, one of the team's mentors, said "The pathtags were a big hit with the students because it was a unique give-away and because of the creative approach to spreading our message. Geocachers I met loved it, but the muggle families I talked with were really intrigued! We are starting to see log ins pop up on our tag map, including the ones I sent to Australia and Oregon to collectors who agreed to place them in geocaches."

"I had this tag made in honour of my late father, who was an artist of abstract, colourful paintings. It is amazing how the pathtag colours match his last painting completely! I am so glad to have this tag to give out to family and to leave in caches."

Penguin_ar

"I started having tags made at the beginning of 2009 and this is my 14th of now 16 tags. Needless to say I believe in the quality and consistency of these little buggers. It is a good artful release and the tag community is fantastic and fun to communicate with. This tag was a labor of love from me and the designer. It took a while to get it "right" but the tag team worked with me every inch of the way and the final product is STELLAR ! Much thanks to the tag team at Pathtags and my designer Jamie. You could even say it glows ! "

EYEDONSCHOTT

"This tag was designed by my daughter ssoutherngurll and given to me for Christmas. My thanks to Kyndrid for the help and beautiful work. I have been caching since July of 09 and decided I need a signature tag and man oh man this is it. I was in the Army from 1970 until 1977 and am proud to have a tag like this. The Eagle and Flag stand proud. Freedom is NEVER free. Hope those that have it enjoy it. "

"Tag came in the mail at the end of last week and we are thrilled with it! Looks great and amazed at the quality of the tags. Am now working on second design...that is, once I finish getting these ready to send out for all my trades. THANKS!!!! "

TEAM HARTSOCK

"We just got our first Path Tags. They are great! We can't wait to start leaving them in geocaches. They got here in plenty of time for us to take them to Midwest GeoBash (2009) in July. Thanks for the great service."

Ginsu Macloed

"Who would ever have thought last year when I had my first tag produced that I would be this addicted to pathtags? I have taken on an extra job to pay for my addiction, and now I will own more than 25 tags by the end of 2009. Every time I think I may need help, I realize how much joy those tags bring to me and everyone else. Thank you for an amazing product! "

"What a great surprise in the mail today. My third pathtag. You guys rock on the production side. It seems like I just ordered it last week. Thanks"

B-Hive

"The amount of intricate detail possible in these little treasures is truly amazing. I always await each new design with finger-twitching anticipation. My sixth design and I still can't make it into the house to open the envelope. This one made it as far as the front steps and I just couldn't take the suspense anymore! The communication on this VERY detailed tag was consistent and detailed. I LOVE working with the pathtags team....almost as much as when I put this tag into the hands of someone who has never seen a pathtag before! Ah, yes.....I'm an addict! And proud of it!"

"Just a quick note to let you know that my tags arrived in the mail today -- 2 weeks earlier than originally estimated. This is my first order and I LOVE the tags. Great job. You exceeded my expectations. Thanks."

"I received my tag in the mail yesterday and I was extremely pleased! Not only is the tag beautiful, but it came about 2 weeks earlier than I had expected!!! I am looking forward to trading my tag and designing another!"
