Walton Robotics FIRST Team 2974 Pathtag

FIRST is a nonprofit organization founded by famed inventor Dean Kamen to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers among young people. The vehicle for making this happen is a program of competitive robotics tournaments for children as young as Kindergarten through high school.

In 2013, Walton Robotics Team 2974 decided to do something special to leave a lasting impression on the people they "crossed paths with" at their competition.  They created a Pathtag to give to other attendees!

Lisa Malice, one of the team's mentors, said "The pathtags were a big hit with the students because it was a unique give-away and because of the creative approach to spreading our message. Geocachers I met loved it, but the muggle families I talked with were really intrigued! We are starting to see log ins pop up on our tag map, including the ones I sent to Australia and Oregon to collectors who agreed to place them in geocaches."

"I received my tags the day I left for our church camp for a week. Luckily my parents also work at the camp and were leaving later so they were able to check the mail and brought them to me. The tags turned out great. I gave out a couple to friends that were working the camp that were also Geocachers. I left camp for a little while on a couple of the days to find a couple of local caches and I put one of the tags out in the wild in Buda, TX. We asked the camp director for permission to place a cache outside the gate of the camp and it was granted. Three of us got together and put together a small cache and I placed one of the tags there as well. I can't wait to share them with my fellow Geocachers around home."

"Came home to find the tags in the mailbox. What an excellent early Christmas gift ay! The tags turned out just awesome as I had expected. I can't wait to start trading as well as repaying some pathtag debts. :-) I will be ordering more very soon I am sure. Thanks for a great job on my tags and thanks to Dark Star for the design help!!!"

"ROCKY GLEN GROMMETS received their first of two tags in the mail today and they are wicked! Midnightgothicangel has done an amazing job - so good in fact that we've just ordered another 4 designs she's created for us. The Groms are going to be SO excited when they get home from school. Bob Grom is a member of our family at RGG (we picked him up out of a cache on the Eyre Peninsula (Australia))"

"I found my first tag near my house a few months ago and thought it was a tiny geocoin. I got an e-mail from the owner explaining what these tags were all about. I've been hooked ever since! My first design turned out amazing, and I already have ideas for my next two. Can't wait!"
