Pacific Lamprey Challenge

When the US Fish and Wildlife Department wanted to create a challenge cache series to educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey, they wanted to give participants something to remember the experience by.  They were looking for a gift that would be meaningful to Geocachers, but which is available on a budget.  They selected Pathtags!

The only way to get their beautiful tag is by completeing the cache series, located just Southwest of Olympia, Washington.

Here are all six mystery cache sites:

The overall goals of this program are:
  • Educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey
  • Educate the public about the Chehalis River Basin and the partners working to conserve/restore it.
  • Connect People With Nature via geocaching

Walton Robotics FIRST Team 2974 Pathtag

FIRST is a nonprofit organization founded by famed inventor Dean Kamen to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers among young people. The vehicle for making this happen is a program of competitive robotics tournaments for children as young as Kindergarten through high school.

In 2013, Walton Robotics Team 2974 decided to do something special to leave a lasting impression on the people they "crossed paths with" at their competition.  They created a Pathtag to give to other attendees!

Lisa Malice, one of the team's mentors, said "The pathtags were a big hit with the students because it was a unique give-away and because of the creative approach to spreading our message. Geocachers I met loved it, but the muggle families I talked with were really intrigued! We are starting to see log ins pop up on our tag map, including the ones I sent to Australia and Oregon to collectors who agreed to place them in geocaches."

"Just wanted to say that this pathtag turned out very well. Being our first pathtag, the details needed to be just right. After a few iterations of blueprinting and redesigning, the blueprint was accepted and then we waited for it to be produced. When we got them in the mail we were shocked on just how awesome they turned out. Way better than expected. The fine details were amazing. We love our first tag. Thanks for making a signature item that is both affordable and detailed. This was money well spent. "

"We have only been making pathtags for about a year and have nothing but good to say about the whole process. These are genuine pieces of art and capture exactly what we are about. The design partners and the whole pathtag team deserve kudos for the easy process from inception to finished goods. These little gems have made a ton of freinds for us as well. Great job everyone!"

"We love our new tag, it came out better than imagined. We are getting a good response for trades, more than we thought we would. We look forward to getting the rest of the set made. "

"Back in May, I designed my pathtag while deployed to Iraq. Two days ago when I got home, I saw my tag in person for the very first time. Suffice to say I was very pleased with how it turned out, so thanks for your quality work in minting it. Now I have to get cracking on fulfilling a number of trade requests... CT"

"I can't tell you how happy I am with my set of travel pathtags. They are very special souvenirs of some great journeys I have been fortunate to take, and when I look at them I am flooded with wonderful memories! Thank you for taking Pathman's fabulous designs and bringing them to life. "

"I got my pathtags today! They are awesome! The entire process was so smooth and easy. I already made my first trade online and love how simple the process was. Thanks so much. Look forward to my next tags."

"I loved Ver. 1 of this tag but Ver. 2 is a lot better. My name adds to my Ham Radio Call Sign and the custom ID on the back is fantastic, I love it. The colors are great, they represent two flags. Excellent work!!!"

"Received our first pathtag, and have to say we were more impressed with the result than we were expecting. These things look so much better than the 2D blueprints! We already have a 2nd tag in production, and a 3rd being designed. Addicting stuff indeed."

"I received my tags the day I left for our church camp for a week. Luckily my parents also work at the camp and were leaving later so they were able to check the mail and brought them to me. The tags turned out great. I gave out a couple to friends that were working the camp that were also Geocachers. I left camp for a little while on a couple of the days to find a couple of local caches and I put one of the tags out in the wild in Buda, TX. We asked the camp director for permission to place a cache outside the gate of the camp and it was granted. Three of us got together and put together a small cache and I placed one of the tags there as well. I can't wait to share them with my fellow Geocachers around home."

"I thought my first tags were wonderful, so I quickly ordered a second set. These tags came out so beautifully, and the detailed workmanship on them is incredible!! Thank you so much to the entire pathtag team, and you can believe I'll be back for more!"
