Pacific Lamprey Challenge

When the US Fish and Wildlife Department wanted to create a challenge cache series to educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey, they wanted to give participants something to remember the experience by.  They were looking for a gift that would be meaningful to Geocachers, but which is available on a budget.  They selected Pathtags!

The only way to get their beautiful tag is by completeing the cache series, located just Southwest of Olympia, Washington.

Here are all six mystery cache sites:

The overall goals of this program are:
  • Educate the public about the Pacific Lamprey
  • Educate the public about the Chehalis River Basin and the partners working to conserve/restore it.
  • Connect People With Nature via geocaching

Walton Robotics FIRST Team 2974 Pathtag

FIRST is a nonprofit organization founded by famed inventor Dean Kamen to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers among young people. The vehicle for making this happen is a program of competitive robotics tournaments for children as young as Kindergarten through high school.

In 2013, Walton Robotics Team 2974 decided to do something special to leave a lasting impression on the people they "crossed paths with" at their competition.  They created a Pathtag to give to other attendees!

Lisa Malice, one of the team's mentors, said "The pathtags were a big hit with the students because it was a unique give-away and because of the creative approach to spreading our message. Geocachers I met loved it, but the muggle families I talked with were really intrigued! We are starting to see log ins pop up on our tag map, including the ones I sent to Australia and Oregon to collectors who agreed to place them in geocaches."

"I received my starter kit today and immediately ordered an additional 100 tags. I could not believe the quality, craftsmanship and detail at such an affordable price. These will definately catch the eye of any geocacher that finds one, even more so once I get one into a Pathtag Sherpa geocoin. Thanks for another hobby !"

"I am beyond excited about our new pathtags! We weren't sure how they were going to turn out with our much lacking graphic design. But they turned out AWESOME!! Thank you so much. Now we are already planning a new design. Thank you PATHTAGS you guys put out such a quality product! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!"

Hootersncooters

"Received my Pathtags. It looks good, very good. While it is just a modification of my original with the addition of my name on the front, my town on the back plus a change in metal color it looks quite an improvement. My original Pathtag has been logged over 100 times, hope this new design has an even better run."

"The Sneaky Snake! We have had this one for a while, we are newbies on logging tags on this site..but we love these also! Thank you so much!!"

GeoDc and Linda

"This is my second tag design and they came out excellent."

"I got my tag about the time I was expecting it and was really impressed with how it looks. I can't wait to start trading. "

T-Hunter

"When I received the tags, I was amazed how well the finer details had come out, and I have had other Pathtaggers comment as well! Keep up the great work. I have ordered tag number 5 and have the design for 6 and 7 ready to go as well."

Landsergruppe

"This is our first tag and when it came in we could not believe how perfect it turned out! It is exactly what we ordered it arrived exactly on time and they are awesome! We can not wait until we run into our local cachers so that we can start passing them out; if it wasn't raining right now I would go out and drop a few in some caches right now. Thank you so much everything was handled so perfectly and delivered exactly as promised. I am already thinking of what our next design will be... -cuckootown-"

"I was very pleased with how this tag turned out. The snow is glitter and is very subtle. My Clydesdale, Ransom, was the model for this tag. J and J did a great job for us!"

"Coming home from work, there was a package on the doorstep, my own PathTags (yeah!!). I was astonished, they are real "gems"!. Great work, even got them in less than 4 weeks, so I can take them to show off on coming events. Tim, thanks for designing this for your me. "
