ALL GONE! - Thanks to everyone who traded a tag with us.
This is our tag for the Midwest Geobash MEGA Event in Wauseon, OH - July 26-29, 2012.
Two years ago they retired the Penguin as the mascot of MWGB (they retire a mascot every year as new mascots are introduced). That lead us to our design for last year's tag "Retirement? Not For These Birds".
So what to do for this year's tag, with this year's mascot being the OWL and the theme "Halloween in July"? Not being being a fan of owls, we had to put on our thinking cap.
One of the first designs we came up with was a half-penguin/half-owl creature which eluded to an owl in a penguin costume or vice versa. While it was interesting, we were not 100% on the concept. Then along came the conversation (on the pathtag forums) of another "theme" tag template like in year's past (rubber ducks, poker chips, and portholes). One idea was the "Spiderweb border". So that got me thinking about what the penguins from last would look like "entangled" or trying to get out of the web...playing on the "Retirement is NOT for these birds" concept.
Soon, I came up with this design, and we were much more on board with this design. Of course we had to subtly add in our geocaching nic and the event name and year into the web. Later on we learned that GLOW enamel was being offered if you purchased the MWGB Tagback. Well that sealed the deal for us, as long as the penguins or the background could be done in GLOW enamel (glow is limted to large open areas in tag designs). We submitted the tag and chose the WHITE GLOW Enamel for the Penguins so they will look "normal" in the daylight, and look a bit like you see to the left when illuminated and viewed in the dark.
If you are interested in obtaining one of these tags, find us at MWGB. If we have any left after the event, we will open the tag up for other tags not already in our collection. Of course preference will be given to other MWGB tags first.
As for the name - what do you think W.E.B stands for?
