There's something magical about the wattle in bloom - the golden blaze that signifies winter is almost done & spring is on the way.
The golden wattle (Acacia pycnantha) is the floral emblem of Australia and appears on the Australian coat-of-arms. Over 600 species of wattle can be found throughout the country.
The Southern Cross forms part of the Crux constellation, which can only be seen from the Southern Hemisphere. It apppears on the Australian flag (alongside the Federation Star and Union Jack) and has been used symbolically throughout Australian history - the Eureka flag and the name of the aircraft flown by aviation pioneer Sir Charles Kingsford Smith are just a couple of examples.
This tag is my attempt to capture a small part of these symbols of Australia - the golden bloom against a clear blue sky, and the glow of a familiar constellation after a long day in the sun.
