Presidente is the National Beer of the Dominican Republic and is distributed throughout the United States and the world. I first tasted this beer after visiting the island several years ago. El Presidente was introduced in The Dominican Republic in 1935. The beer was brewed after it was discovered that the European beers being imported to the island were too heavy, and other beers from elsewhere were too light. I was told by people on the island that a very good German Brewmeister was employed to develop the original formula.
In the Dominican Republic, El Presidente Beer is sold in little stores and at stands all over the island to include little kiosks on the beaches. It is hard to beat drinking an ice cold beer while watching the cool blue water lapping up on the sand and shore of that place.
Many Dominican stores will not sell you a Presidente unless it is good and cold. In fact, if you order it for home delivery from the local convienience store (which you can do there), they will wrap it in newspapers to keep it cold on the trip to your doorstep. I tried to buy a "cold one" at a couple of stores and the owners sent me to other stores in the area after explaining that their beer just wasn't cold enough to sell yet.
Enjoying a cold one while watching a baseball game is a national past time in the country. I highly recommend a visit to the beaches of the Dominican Republic where you can enjoy "una cerveza fria" in paradise. There was also a superb little German restaurant on the beach in Boca Chica which is pretty close to the airport in Santo Domingo. It is hard to get much closer to Germany in The Caribbean than this place which serves great German food accompanied by what is about as close as you can get to a German beer in this part of the world.
Please consider trading Beer Cap Club tags with me. We'll trade for other tags as well, but 1st preference will go to Beer Cap Club tags followed by any tags having to do with geography.
