Ando Hiroshige (1797-1858) was a Japanese artist who, when orphaned as a teenager and no longer destined to follow in his father's footsteps, began painting and creating woodblock prints. His first prints were of women and actors as well as illustrations for books. Later he turned to landscapes which became extremely popular and brought him immense success during his lifetime. These works greatly influenced European artists.
This tag is based on a print titled "View from Satta Suruga."
