Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was an important Flemish baroque painter. He used bold brushstrokes and light vs. shadows to create a sense of energy in his art. His canvases each tell important stories which is why they have endured through the ages. Rubens was quite successful during his lifetime, and he influenced many artists in the 18th and 19th centuries.

This tag is based on a painting titled "The Descent from the Cross."
