This tag is made in memory of my baby girl... Hershee!!!
Hershee was born the runt of a litter of 10 puppies in Dillon, MT, on September 21, 2003.
From the time Hershee was three days old she required bottle feeding every two hours. The mother dog rejected her not allowing her to nurse regularly with the other pups. As a friend to the owner of the dogs, I volunteered to assist and care for her, as she was most certainly in the most need of someones love and affection.
This started what wound up to be the most memorable and enjoyable experience of my life... Hershee and I bonded immediately. My friends at Christmas time when the pups were ready for adoption and "leaving the house" gave me AKC papers and ownership to my beloved Hershee! (At this point, I had come to the realization that as a 'starving' college student, I could not afford the $475.00 to buy her outright). I remember praying as people came to the house that she would not warm up to anyone else. At this point, she still had a slight cough too due to her near death experience when Shayla (her mother) nearly smothered her. To my delight as people left with new additions to their family, mine was still looking up at me... LOVING WITHOUT HESITATION.
Hershee blessed my life in many ways. She was so much more than a companion or a friend. She was my world.
In February 2004, we spent several days playing and hiking together. The additional photo on this profile is my favorite photo taken February 19 in Birch Creek (10 miles northeast of Dillon, MT).
In April 2004, tragedy struck, and I lost my baby girl. I still can not go even one day without thinking about her, how proud of her I was, how much I wish she was still by my side, how much I just miss her. Even now, five years later, every dog brings some vivid memory of her. Chocolate labs definitely have a special place in my heart.
My hopes for this tag is that it will find its way into the hands of other compassionate people who have or have lost their best friends.
In the future to come I plan to make this into a series of tags. I want to focus on sending the message out for everyone to "LIVE WITHOUT HESITATION." Live every cherishable moment as if it will be your last, for it may.
Please share with me, if you will, your most memorable experiences with your pets/companions/friends. Let us honor them now for all they have done/continue to do for us.
May all the Hershee's of this world be with us in hearts/spirits/minds forever!!! Rest in peace baby girl!!!
