Tag #22801 - The Hungry Tiger of Oz
by Slightly Tall Paul
My daughter Eleanor and I enjoy reading the "Famous 40" books chronicling the adventures of Dorothy Gale and her friends in The Land of Oz, originally written by L. Frank Baum and subsequently by Ruth Plumly Thompson and others.
We therefore decided to create two special personal pathtags (just 50 of each) featuring our favourite lesser-known characters from Oz.
Eleanor chose The Hungry Tiger, the largest tiger in all of Oz. He first appeared in the second Oz novel, The Marvelous Land Of Oz and is a great friend of The Cowardly Lion. His greatest wish in life is to eat a fat baby, but his conscience won't allow him to eat another sentient being so he remains hungry. As drawn by illustrator John R. Neill, The Hungry Tiger was always portrayed as a realistic (but enormous) tiger, but Eleanor decided to anthropomorhise him somewhat by giving him cutlery and a bib/napkin. Eventually we based our tiger on a still from an old b&w cereal ad!
