On May 15, 2010, I attended an event cache about Pathtags co-hosted by Capra Hircus. I was pretty sure that I would soon have a tag of my own. After seeing his collection, I had a couple ideas for what my first tag might look like. Just after leaving the event, I made a few sketches.
And then I started trying to design my tag on the computer. It was a little harder than I thought to get those initial ideas down on digital paper. They didn't look quite the way I had pictured them. They didn't represent me as well as I had hoped.
It's funny how inspiration strikes sometimes, I suppose. After rejecting my first few attempts before ever submitting them, I realized that the perfect design was right in front of me the whole time - on my favorite t-shirt (which I happened to be wearing). I found a picture of the graphic online and traced a slightly simplified version into my software. I added in my geocaching handle. Then I threw in my favorite Girl Scout law, since it went well with one of my key values.
The image is "Swimmy" the Polar Bear. You'll notice there's no ice for him to hunt or rest on. All of our actions have a reaction, and it's up to us to consider the impact of each of our decisions. We can protect and improve the world around us in many ways - by helping someone picked up a dropped item, or by reducing our use of fossil fuels.
